There are cars that mark an era, some breaking speed records, while others just have to show off their futuristic metal bodies. There are supercars and small cars. And then there She is, a car that represents one of the common memories of an entire population, the famous Panda.
In LANDER Restoration & Mod we are fond of the 4x4 version, the legendary mountain climber, and in particular Cristian, who drove an example of this car prepared by him in the “Sahara Racing Cup” Rally in 2019, finishing second overall out of twenty-eight crews.
That Panda was completely disassembled and reinforced properly. Enlarged cockpit and seats pushed back for reasons of ... habitability, roll cages, new rear fuel tanks and plexiglass windows complete the set-up while the classic four-cylinder Fiat 1000 was prepared up to one thousand two levels, delivering 120 hp.
The reliability of the Panda itself and the experience that Cristian gained during all of his rallies allowed the crew to carry very few spare parts, filling the remaining space in the assistance boxes with good red wine. Driving the Panda 4x4 on the dunes is an experience that must be tried. Also, this fantastic car is so comfortable that Cristian and his co-driver made a stage of the Rally with two-wheel drive, but the wrong ones: the anterior ones! The Panda is unstoppable and it doesn’t create any problem even if you are going on boring trips. That year the Tunisian motorways saw it speeding up between Tunis and Douz at 168 km / h.
Today we have in our factory an example of a Panda 4x4 that does not lose the habit of being passionate and marking important moments. And this new project from LANDER Restoration & Mod has many reasons to be considered “important”. The lucky owner of the Panda 4x4 we are preparing will participate in the 22nd edition of the Sahara Racing Cup in the Tunisian desert, from 23 April to 2 May. This means that after these two difficult years, perhaps we can begin to look to the future with confidence and go back to dreaming and organizing travels and adventures abroad with our favorite irons. Moreover, we are going to follow the owner of the Panda in the race with an IVECO VM 90, as an assistance vehicle, loaded with experience, spare parts, and a few bottles of wine.
The good news does not end there: the participation in this rally is just the beginning of a bigger project, conceived together with a humanitarian association, which aims to bring concrete help to the populations of desert areas. It will develop throughout the year till the 23rd edition of the Dakar. We will race in the Classic category on an official ex Cagiva Land Rover.

Panda. If it didn't exist, it would have to be invented.
Ci sono macchine che segnano un epoca, qualcuna sfondando record di velocità , mentre ad altre basta sfoggiare i loro avveneristici corpi di metallo. Ci sono supercar ed utilitarie. E poi c’è lei, che oltre ad essere una bandiera degli anni in cui nata, rappresenta uno dei ricordi comuni ad un popolo intero. Perchè c’abbiamo avuto a che fare tutti noi italiani con lei, abbiamo tutti un ricordo che ci lega alla Panda.
Noi di LANDER Restoration & Mod siamo molto affezionati alla versione 4x4, leggendaria arrampicatrice di montagna, ed in particolare Cristian, che con un esemplare da lui preparato ci corse addirittura il Rally “Sahara Racing Cup” nel 2019, arrivando secondo assoluto su ventotto equipaggi.
Quella Panda in particolare venne completamente smontata e rinforzata a dovere. Abitacolo allargato e sedili indietreggiati per motivi di…abitabilità, rollbar, nuovi serbatoi posteriori e vetri in plexiglass vanno a completare l’allestimento mentre il classico quattro cilindri 1000 Fiat venne preparato fino a portarlo a quota milledue, erogando 120 cv.
L’affidabilità della Panda e l’esperienza maturata nei rally da Cristian permisero all’equipaggio di portare pochissimi pezzi di ricambio, riempiendo lo spazio avanzato nelle casse dell’assistenza con del buon vino rosso. Guidare la Panda 4x4 sulle dune una esperienza che va provata. E’ talmente a suo agio che Cristian ed il suo navigatore si fecero una tappa del Rally con due ruote motrici, ma quelle sbagliate. Le anteriori. La Panda è inarrestabile. Nessun problema anche per i noiosi trasferimenti. Le autostrade Tunisine quell’anno la videro sfrecciare tra Tunisi e Douz a 168 Km/h. Veri, di GPS!
Oggi abbiamo nella nostra factory un esemplare di Panda 4x4 che non perde il vizio di appassionarci e di segnare momenti importanti. E questo nuovo progetto di LANDER Restoration & Mod ne ha molti di motivi per essere considerato “importante”. Il fortunato proprietario della Panda 4x4 che stiamo preparando parteciperà all’edizione ’22 del Sahara Racing Cup nel deserto Tunisino, dal 23 Aprile al 2 Maggio. Ciò significa che dopo questi due anni difficili, forse possiamo iniziare a guardare con fiducia al futuro e tornare a sognare ed organizzare viaggi ed avventure all’estero con i nostri ferri preferiti. Inoltre il proprietario della Panda sarà seguito nella gara da noi, con un IVECO VM 90, come veicolo assistenza, carico di esperienza, pezzi di ricambio, e qualche bottiglia di vino.
Le belle notizie non finiscono qui: la partecipazione a questo rally è solo l’inizio di un progetto ben più ampio, ideato insieme ad una associazione umanitaria, che ha come obiettivo portare aiuto concreto alle popolazioni delle zone desertiche. Si svilupperà lungo tutto l’anno fino a portarci all’edizione ’23 della Dakar. Che ci vedrà correre nella categoria Classic, a bordo di un Land Rover ex ufficiale Cagiva.
